We are governed by the University of Melbourne Act 2009 (Vic).

The 13-member Council is the University's governing body, with the authority to make statutes and regulations, and the Academic Board is the chief academic body. The University has nine faculties, led and managed by a Vice-Chancellor and the senior leadership team.

Peak bodies and structures

The University Council is our governing body supported by its sub-committees including the Academic Board, which is responsible for academic matters, teaching, and research quality. The University Executive is the University’s principal management committee.

Regulatory framework

The University of Melbourne governs its operations through a hierarchy of instruments, referred to as the Regulatory Framework.
