  • Bootcamp

This winter the University of Melbourne is offering a new skills-building workshop to give University of Melbourne students the opportunity to try their hand at entrepreneurship. Over 5 days you’ll get an intensive introduction to entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial opportunities. You'll be working in small teams to explore a problem to solve, come up with a business idea to solve it, develop it, explore customers, find product market-fit, validate your idea, and pitch it.

By the end of the week, you'll have built the skills to take your ideas from inception to market, have a toolkit to take into your studies and career, and have made some great new friends and contacts on the way. You will also receive a certificate of completion and be able to record your experience as a professional development activity for the Leaders in Communities Award.

What to expect

  • Expect to be challenged – this is not cruising along at the back; this is in the thick of it.
  • We’ll be virtual, but we’ll have live presentations each day from facilitator, Adam Bumpus, and real time support for workshopping your ideas.
  • Expect to work in groups – lone rangers don’t cut it in entrepreneurship.
  • Expect practical skills building based on real entrepreneurship theory. This real world. And best practice.
  • This is a plan that builds on each previous module, so we need you there for the whole thing. This is how you get the most out of it.
  • It’s going to be hectic, and you’re going to get a lot out of it.
  • We will cover:
    • Module 1: Dream Big, Find Your Dream Team, and your Values
    • Module 2: The big problem and the big idea
    • Module 3: The Business Model Canvas
    • Module 3: Your market and the value of your customer, customer, customer
    • Module 4: Customer Discovery and Validation
    • Module 5: How do you make money? The financials.
    • Module 6: Impact & Business model canvas
    • Module 7: Pitching Tips and Practice
    • Module 8: Pitching for real

Sessions will run from 10:00am to 5:00pm and will include approximately four hours of bootcamp 'studio' time and structured feedback. You will spend the rest of the time developing your idea and testing it with your team.

Logistics

  • The bootcamp is virtual and will be held through online tools. But it will have live events each day, and real time support for workshopping your ideas.
  • Attendance cost is $25, and there’ll be a pitch on the final day where the winning team (judged by your peers and a panel of experts) will be able to choose a charity to submit the application funds toward.

NOTE: Applications will close on the 23rd June 2020 and successful applicants will be notified by the 29th June 2020 (successful applicants will need to pay the $25 fee at this time). The application should only take approximately 10 minutes.
