Improve the quality of your business processes and reduce business waste with this five-day workshop on Lean Six Sigma at the Green Belt level.


Lean Six Sigma is a rigorous and disciplined methodology that uses organisational data and statistical analysis to measure and improve the performance of an organisation’s business processes.

The objectives are to eliminate waste, defects, rework and mistakes, as well as to improve quality and reduce variance in process outputs. Internally, this will result in staff efficiency and profitability. Externally, this will lead to an increase of customer satisfaction and competitiveness.

The University of Melbourne’s five-day workshop on Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is part of our Business Process Management training series. The course provides comprehensive coverage of the Six Sigma DMAIC approach (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control) while incorporating principles and techniques from Lean Management.

Various statistical analysis techniques will be presented throughout the course and put in practice using practical examples and supervised exercises. The course content is aligned with the Universally Accepted Lean Six Sigma Body of Knowledge for Green Belts, developed by the International Association for Six Sigma Certification.

Upon completion of this Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Participation issued by the University of Melbourne. This does not award you the official IASSC Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification. In order to obtain this certification, participants will be provided with a recommended exam preparation plan and a voucher to sit the IASSC Lean Six Sigma Green Belt examination online at a time of their choosing.

Our Green Belt course is offered as a face-to-face intensive over five days (35-40 contact hours). In addition, participants are provided with a course of additional readings, resources, practice case studies and tests that should be completed before participants attempt the Green Belt Exam. This additional material increases their workload by a minimum estimated 25-30 hours resulting in a total Green Belt program duration of 60-70 hours.

This course addresses the needs of professionals involved in continuous improvement projects. This includes professional staff such as managers and directors, business analysts and process analysts, as well as IT staff such as solution architects.

    Business Improvement Consultant

    Patrice Moutou is a business improvement consultant experienced in different aspects of business transformation. Driven by a passion for improved business efficiency and effectiveness, for the last 15-years he has devoted his attention to the application of the Lean Six Sigma methodology to different organisations, yielding benefits worth several million dollars within small, medium and large corporations both in Australia and overseas.  His approach to business improvement is through strong people engagement and by ensuring a firm alignment between project requirements and strategic objectives of the organisation.

  • Professor Marcello La Rosa
    Professor of Information Systems, School of Computing and Information Systems

    Professor Marcello La Rosa is Deputy Head of School (Engagement) and leads the Information Systems group within the School of Computing and Information Systems at the University of Melbourne. He published over 100 papers in different topics related to BPM. Marcello has taught BPM and provided consultancy services, executive training and strategic advice to numerous organisations, both nationally and overseas, for over 10 years. Based on this experience, Marcello co-authored “Fundamentals of Business Process Management” (Springer, 2nd edition), which has been adopted by over 200 universities in the world. Using this textbook, he co-developed a series of MOOCs on the subject, attracting over 25,000 participants to date.

This course is presented in partnership with the Melbourne School of Engineering and the School of Computing and Information Systems.
